About “Jaws”

Jaws is a 1974 novel by American writer Peter Benchley. The story follows a great white shark that attacks a small resort town and the efforts of three men to kill it. Benchley was inspired by real-life shark attacks and the experiences of fisherman Frank Mundus in Montauk, New York. He wrote the novel in 1971 after being commissioned by Doubleday. At the time, Benchley worked as a freelance journalist. The book was later included in collections such as Reader's Digest Condensed Books and Three Complete Novels.
