Jaws is a 1974 novel by American writer Peter Benchley. The story follows a great white shark that attacks a small resort town and the efforts of three men to kill it. At the time, Benchley worked as a freelance journalist. The book was later included in collections such as Reader's Digest Condensed Books and Three Complete Novels.
