About “Joseph and His Brothers”
Joseph and His Brothers is Thomas Mann's retelling of the biblical story of Joseph, which he regarded as his magnum opus and conceived as a unified "mythological novel" in four parts: The Stories of Jacob, Young Joseph, Joseph in Egypt, and Joseph the Provider. It depicts Joseph's fall into slavery and rise to lord over Egypt amid the ancient civilizations of Egypt, Mesopotamia, and Palestine.
