About “Juliana”
"Juliana" is an Old English poem attributed to the poet Cynewulf. It tells the story of St. Juliana of Nicomedia, focusing on her life and martyrdom. The poem is one of four signed Old English works by Cynewulf and is part of a small group of texts that describe the lives of saints. The only surviving manuscript of "Juliana" dates from between 970 and 990 and is found in the Exeter Book, between the poems "The Phoenix" and "The Wanderer." It is one of only five Old English poetic texts that deal with the lives of saints. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
