About “Just Culture”

A just culture protects people's honest mistakes from being treated as culpable, but determining what constitutes an honest mistake depends on how lines between acceptable and unacceptable behavior are constructed. These lines are shaped by language, hindsight, tradition, and who holds the authority to define them, and without clear, shared understanding of who draws those lines, justice and safety in organizations can be undermined.
