About “Kholstomer”
"Kholstomer," also translated as "Strider," is a novella by Leo Tolstoy that has been called "one of the most striking stories in Russian literature." It was begun in 1863 and left unfinished until 1886, when it was revised and published under the title "Kholstomer: The Story of a Horse." The story uses the technique of defamiliarization by telling the narrative from the perspective of a horse, highlighting the absurdities of human behavior and social norms. The work reflects Tolstoy's interest in exploring societal structures through an unconventional viewpoint. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
