About “Khosrow and Shirin”
Khosrow and Shirin is a romantic epic poem written by Nizami Ganjavi, a 12th-century Persian poet. It is the second of his five major works, known as the Khamsa. The poem tells the story of Khosrow II's love for Shirin, a Christian woman who becomes the queen of the Sasanian Empire. The tale is based on a well-known Persian legend, which also appears in the Shahnameh and other Persian literary works. The story has also been told under the title Shirin and Farhad, though the versions differ. Nizami's work is a highly developed and artistic retelling of a traditional romantic narrative.
