About “Kitab-ı Bahriye”
The Kitab-ı Bahriye is a navigational guide written by Piri Reis, an Ottoman cartographer, corsair, and captain. It is a detailed portolan atlas of the Mediterranean Sea, compiled from charts and notes gathered during his career at sea. The work combines information from various sources and Piri Reis' personal experience. The section on the coast of North Africa contains minimal information from outside sources.
