About “Knock”

Doctor Knock, also known as Knock ou le Triomphe de la médecine, is a 1923 French-language satirical play written by Jules Romains. The play was first performed on 15 December 1923 at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, directed by Louis Jouvet. It was later translated into English by Harley Granville-Barker and published under the title Doctor Knock in 1925. The first English production took place on 27 April 1924 at the Royalty Theatre in London. The same translation was used for the 1928 Broadway production at the American Laboratory Theatre.
