About “Kolyma Tales”
Kolyma Tales is a collection of short stories by Russian author Varlam Shalamov, based on his experiences in Soviet labor camps. The work consists of six separate collections, including Kolyma Tales, The Left Bank, The Virtuoso Shovelman, Essays on the Criminal World, Resurrection of the Larch, and The Glove, or, Kolyma Stories II. Shalamov began writing the stories in 1954 and worked on them until 1973. The stories are largely based on his personal experiences and serve as documentary accounts of life in the camps. The collection is regarded as Shalamov's most significant literary achievement and an important contribution to 20th-century Russian literature. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
