About “Kural”
The Tirukkuṟaḷ, or Kural, is a classic Tamil language text on commoner's morality consisting of 1,330 short couplets, or kurals, each of seven words. It is divided into three books that cover virtue, wealth, and love. The text is known for its universality and secular nature. It is traditionally attributed to Valluvar, also known as Thiruvalluvar. The text has been dated from 300 BCE to the 5th century CE. Traditional accounts link it to the third Sangam, but linguistic analysis suggests it was composed between 450 and 500 CE, after the Sangam period. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
