About “Learning from Las Vegas”
Learning from Las Vegas was published by the MIT Press in 1972 and quickly became influential and controversial. The book argued that the billboards and casinos of Las Vegas deserved architectural attention, challenging the focus of contemporary architects on heroic and monumental design. The authors examined the Las Vegas Strip and explored the symbolism in everyday and unassuming architecture. According to co-author Denise Scott Brown, the book questioned established ideas and redefined architectural research by embracing the value of ordinary and decorative structures.
