About “Les Mille et Un Jours”
Les Mille et Un Jours, subtitled contes persans, is a short story collection with Middle Eastern settings published between 1710 and 1712 by the French orientalist François Pétis de la Croix. The stories were largely adapted from a 15th-century Turkish collection called Ferec baʿde şidde, but the work's structure was modeled on Antoine Galland's Les Mille et Une Nuits. It had a significant influence on European culture, particularly through its retelling of the story of Turandot, which later inspired Puccini's opera and other works.
