Let the Great World Spin, a 2009 novel by Colum McCann, is set in New York City in August 1974, as a mysterious tightrope walker moves between the Twin Towers while lower Manhattan watches. The book weaves together the lives of characters including Corrigan, a radical Irish monk; grieving mothers who lost sons in Vietnam; a young artist involved in a hit-and-run; and Tillie, a grandmother.
