Letters from a Peruvian Woman is a 1747 epistolary novel by Françoise de Graffigny. The story is told through letters written by Zilia, a young Incan princess, to her fiancé Aza, who is also the Sapa Inca. Zilia recounts her capture from the Temple of the Sun by the Spanish during the conquest of the Inca Empire. She is later rescued by French sailors and comes to know Captain Déterville, who introduces her to French society. The novel presents Zilia’s experiences and emotions through her correspondence.
