About “Li romans d'Alixandre”
The Roman d'Alexandre is a 16,000-verse Old French poem from the twelfth century that recounts episodes from the life of Alexander the Great. It is regarded as the most significant of the Medieval Alexander romances. Some manuscripts include illustrations. The poem is divided into four branches, and its final form is largely attributed to Alexander of Paris. He arranged the branches in their current order, reworked the first branch into alexandrines, incorporated text from Pierre de Saint-Cloud, and added verses to connect the sections.
