About “Life Is a Dream”

Life Is a Dream is a Spanish-language play written by Pedro Calderón de la Barca. It was first published in 1636 in two editions, one in Madrid and one in Zaragoza. Some scholars, including Don W. Cruickshank, suggest the play was written around 1630, making it one of Calderón's earlier works. The play is a philosophical allegory that explores the human condition and the nature of life. It is considered one of the greatest examples of Spanish Golden Age drama. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
