About “Little Flowers of St. Francis”
The Little Flowers of St. Francis is a florilegium, a collection of short passages, divided into 53 chapters, about the life of Saint Francis of Assisi. It was written at the end of the 14th century and is an Italian text, likely by a Tuscan author. The work is based on the Latin Actus beati Francisci et sociorum eius, with the earliest surviving manuscript dating to 1390. Luke Wadding attributed the text to Ugolino da Santa Maria, who is mentioned three times in the Actus. However, most modern scholars believe the author was Ugolino Brunforte.
