About “LTI. Notizbuch eines Philologen”

Victor Klemperer (1881-1960) was a professor of French literature at Dresden University. As a Jew, he lost his position in 1935 but survived due to his marriage to an Aryan. From 1933 to 1935, he kept detailed diaries that provided material for the German edition of LTI: Lingua Tertii Imperii. First published in 1957, The Language of the Third Reich reflects Klemperer's belief that the language of the Third Reich shaped its culture. He argued that not only Nazi actions but also the mindset and language of Nazism needed to be eliminated. The book is both insightful and disturbing, and is recognized as a significant study of language and history in the 20th century. It was translated by Dr. Martin Brady.
