About “Lullaby”

Carl Streator is a solitary widower and fortyish newspaper reporter assigned to write about Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. During his investigation, he finds a disturbing connection: the book Poems and Rhymes Around the World, opened to a lethal African chant, appears at each death scene. The chant becomes lethal when spoken or even thought, and Streator unknowingly becomes a serial killer. He teams up with Helen Hoover Boyle, a real estate broker who sells haunted houses and lost a child to the chant. Together, they embark on a cross-country journey to destroy copies of the book and prevent the spread of the deadly "verbal virus." They are joined by Helen's assistant, Mona Sabbat, a Wiccan, and her boyfriend, Oyster, an ecoterrorist running a scam. Their mission is to stop the culling song from wiping out humanity.
