About “Mainichi Kaasan”

Mainichi Kaasan is a Japanese comedy manga series written and illustrated by Rieko Saibara, based on her experiences as a housewife and mother. It was serialized in the Mainichi Shimbun newspaper from October 2002 to June 2017 and later collected into 14 tankōbon volumes. The series won several awards, including the Excellence Award at the 8th Japan Media Arts Festival in 2004 and the Short Story Award at the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prizes in 2005. It was adapted into an anime television series that aired from April 2009 to March 2012 and was later licensed in English on Crunchyroll. The manga was also adapted into a live-action film released in Japan in February 2011. The film starred Kyōko Koizumi and Masatoshi Nagase as the main characters and won awards at the Shanghai International Film Festival and the Mainichi Film Awards.
