About “Man and nature”
Man and Nature: Or, Physical Geography as Modified by Human Action was published in 1864 by George Perkins Marsh, an American scholar and diplomat. In the book, Marsh argued that humans shape the environment rather than the other way around. He warned that human actions could lead to the destruction of both people and the planet if resources were not protected and awareness of environmental impact was not increased. The work is considered one of the first to examine how human activity affects the environment and played a key role in beginning the modern conservation movement.
