Manhattan Beach opens in Brooklyn during the Great Depression, where Anna Kerrigan, nearly twelve years old, accompanies her father to the house of Dexter Styles, a man crucial to her father's and family's survival. Years later, after her father's disappearance and as the country is at war, Anna works at the Brooklyn Naval Yard, becoming the first female diver and the sole provider for her mother and her disabled sister, while reconnecting with Dexter Styles at a nightclub and uncovering the complexities of her father's life.
