Mike Jackson, the youngest son of a family of skilled cricketers, attends Wrykyn, where his ambition to excel as a batsman is hindered by his lack of interest in academics and his tendency toward mischief. After being sent to Sedleigh due to poor academic performance, he befriends Psmith, an eccentric student also avoiding the school's expectations, and together they navigate the social dynamics of a school neither desires.
