About “Modern Cookery for Private Families”
Modern Cookery for Private Families is an English cookery book written by Eliza Acton. It was first published by Longmans in 1845 and became a best-seller, with 13 editions released by 1853. Later, its sales were surpassed by Mrs Beeton's work. Delia Smith praised Acton as "the best writer of recipes in the English language," while Elizabeth David questioned why "this peerless writer" had been overshadowed by less skilled imitators.
