My Year of Meats is a cross-cultural narrative centered on two women whose lives intersect through the realms of television production, industrial agriculture, and issues of fertility and motherhood. The story follows documentarian Jane Takagi-Little as she works on a Japanese television show sponsored by an American meat-exporting business, uncovering troubling truths about a hormone called DES, while also encountering Akiko Ueno, a Japanese housewife attempting to escape her oppressive marriage.
