About “Night Work”

Night Work is a 2006 novel by Thomas Glavinic. Jonas is alone in Vienna; at first it is just a small irritation that the newspaper is missing and the television and radio produce only static, but he realizes his city is empty of people. Not knowing whether he is the sole survivor of a catastrophe or whether people have fled, Jonas searches the city, its shops and apartments, and finally sets out by truck to look for traces of others.
