This 2017 book by Jessica Bruder follows transient older Americans, an invisible casualty of the Great Recession, who take to the road in secondhand RVs and vans as migrant "workampers," from North Dakota beet fields to Amazon's CamperForce program in Texas. Bruder, traveling in a van she names "Van Halen," accompanies protagonist Linda May and others through campground work, warehouse scanning, and beet harvesting.
