About “On the Murder of Eratosthenes”
"On the Murder of Eratosthenes" is a speech by Lysias, part of the "Canon of Ten" Attic orators. It is the first speech in the Lysianic corpus, also known as Lysias 1. The speech was delivered by Euphiletos, who defended himself against the accusation of murdering Eratosthenes. Euphiletos claimed that he killed Eratosthenes in self-defense after catching him committing adultery with his wife. He argued that the killing was justifiable homicide, not murder.
