About “On the Soul”

On the Soul is a treatise written by Aristotle around 350 BC that classifies the souls of living organisms based on their functions. According to Aristotle, plants have the ability to nourish and reproduce, which he considers the basic requirement for life. Lower animals possess these abilities plus sense-perception and self-motion. Humans have all these capacities, along with intellect. The work explores the different levels of soul and their corresponding functions. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
