A 1968 novel by Cormac McCarthy. A woman bears her brother's child, a boy; the brother abandons the baby in the woods and claims it died naturally. Upon discovering his lie, she sets out alone to find her son, while both wander a countryside terrorized by three menacing strangers, heading toward an apocalyptic resolution.
