About “Petersburg”
Petersburg is a Symbolist novel by Russian writer Andrei Bely. It was first completed in November 1913 and published in serial form from October 1913 to March 1914. The novel has been compared to other "city novels" such as Ulysses and Berlin Alexanderplatz. It initially received little attention. The first English translation was published in 1959 by John Cournos. A shortened and revised version was also published, and a further translation by David McDuff appeared in 1995.
