Picnic at Hanging Rock is a 1967 novel by Joan Lindsay, marking its 50th anniversary in a later edition with a foreword by Maile Meloy. Set on a cloudless summer day in 1900, three girls from Appleyard College for Young Ladies climb into the sun during a picnic at Hanging Rock and disappear, never to return.
