Hatushaly and his wife Hava, who pose as innkeepers in the trading town of Beran's Hill, are actually assassins from the island of Coaltachin and members of the Nocusara. They are awaiting orders from their masters in the Kingdom of Night while preparing for the midsummer festival, but a series of catastrophic events shatters the town's peace, revealing Hatu's true identity as the last surviving member of the Firemanes and the heir to the fallen Kingdom of Flames, Ithrace.
