About “Rigodon”
Rigadoon, completed the day before Louis-Ferdinand Céline's death in 1961, is a novel that explores the effects of war and its aftermath. Written in the first person, the narrator, accompanied by his wife and a cat, flees from Paris to Denmark after being on the losing side of World War II. The story includes train journeys filled with both madness and moments of kindness. Céline, who was also a physician, portrays the narrator helping refugees while neglecting his own medical needs. The novel is often humorous and filled with anger. It is considered one of Céline's most compassionate works.
