About “Ritha' al-Andalus”
Rithā’ al-Andalus, also known as Lament for the Fall of Seville, is an Arabic qaṣīda nūniyya attributed to the Andalusi poet Abu al-Baqa ar-Rundi. It was written in 1267 to mourn the loss of territories in Murcia and Jerez to Christian kingdoms during the Reconquista. The poem reflects the sorrow and despair felt in al-Andalus following these territorial setbacks. Some sources refer to the poet as Salih ben Sharif al-Rundi, though the exact details of his identity remain unclear.
