About “Rota”

Rota is an early 20th-century Polish poem that also served as a celebratory anthem. It was proposed to be the Polish national anthem. The lyrics were written in 1908 by Maria Konopnicka, a poet and activist for Polish independence, as a protest against the German Empire's policies of forced Germanization. Konopnicka wrote the poem while staying in Cieszyn. It was first published in the Gwiazdka Cieszyńska newspaper on 7 November.
