Molly Bolt, born a bastard, is adopted by a poor Southern couple who hope for a better life for her. As a child, she plays doctor with boys, fights with Leroy the tub, and loses her virginity to her girlfriend in sixth grade. As she grows, she comes to accept her differences and refuses to apologize for them. She captivates the head cheerleader of Ft. Lauderdale High and a beautiful bourbon-guzzling heiress. However, the world is not accepting. She is expelled from college for moral turpitude and, now penniless and unrepentant, moves to New York. There, she makes a name for herself with her striking beauty, sharp wit, and determination to become a great filmmaker.
