About “Shuowen Jiezi”
The Shuowen Jiezi is a Chinese dictionary compiled by Xu Shen around 100 CE during the Eastern Han dynasty. It was the first work to provide a comprehensive analysis of Chinese characters based on their structure and to organize entries by shared radicals. Earlier reference works, such as the Erya, had existed, but the Shuowen Jiezi introduced a systematic approach to understanding character formation. This dictionary played a key role in the study of Chinese writing and influenced later lexicographic works. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
