About “Simplicius Simplicissimus”
Simplicius Simplicissimus is a picaresque novel written by Hans Jakob Christoffel von Grimmelshausen and published in 1668. It is divided into five books and is considered the first adventure novel in the German language. The story was inspired by the events and suffering of the Thirty Years' War, which affected Germany between 1618 and 1648. A sequel titled Continuatio was published in 1669.
