About “Six principles of Chinese painting”
The Six Principles of Chinese Painting were established by Xie He in "Six Points to Consider When Judging a Painting," from the preface to his book The Record of the Classification of Old Painters, written circa 550. The six elements are Spirit Resonance (vitality), Bone Method (brushwork), Correspondence to the Object (form), Suitability to Type (color), Division and Planning (composition), and Transmission by Copying (copying models).
