About “Snow-White and Rose-Red”

"Snow-White and Rose-Red" is a German fairy tale first collected by the Brothers Grimm in 1837. It was originally published by Wilhelm Grimm in 1827 in Wilhelm Hauff's Märchen-Almanach. An earlier version titled "The Ungrateful Dwarf" was written by Caroline Stahl, who lived from 1776 to 1837. This older version is considered the earliest known variant of the story, with no prior oral versions recorded. Since its publication in 1818, only a few oral versions have been collected, and they are limited to specific regions. The tale is classified as Aarne–Thompson type 426.
