About “Song of the Albigensian Crusade”
The Song of the Albigensian Crusade is an Old Occitan epic poem that recounts the events of the Albigensian Crusade from March 1208 to June 1219. Structured like the Old French chanson de geste, it was composed in two parts. The first part was written by William of Tudela around 1213, while the second part was completed by an anonymous continuator. Some recent research suggests that the troubadour Gui de Cavalhon may have written the second part. The poem is one of three major contemporary accounts of the crusade, alongside Historia Albigensis by Pierre des Vaux-de-Cernay and Chronica by William of Puylaurens.
