About “Sorstalanság”

Fateless is a semi-autobiographical novel by Imre Kertész, published in 1975. It follows the experiences of a 14-year-old Hungarian Jew who is sent to Auschwitz and later to Buchenwald during World War II. The story is based on Kertész's own experiences as a prisoner. It is the first part of a trilogy, which includes Fiasco and Kaddish for an Unborn Child. Kertész was awarded the 2002 Nobel Prize for Literature for his work, which focuses on the individual's experience in the face of historical violence.
