About “Sputnik Sweetheart”

A college student falls in love with a classmate who is devoted to Kerouac and an untidy writerly life, making her unable to commit to personal relationships. She meets a much older and more sophisticated businesswoman, which leads her into Murakami's surreal yet humane universe. She travels from Japan to Europe and an island near Greece, then disappears, leaving behind only strange computer accounts and stories. A teacher, who is also her suitor, is called to help find her. He experiences haunting visions that lead him back to Japan. There, under the vastness of space and the orbiting Sputnik, he gains a true understanding of his beloved.
