About “Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio”

A 1766 short story collection by Pu Songling. Also known as Liaozhai zhiyi or Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio, it comprises close to 500 stories or "marvel tales" in the zhiguai and chuanqi styles, which some critics say implicitly criticised societal problems. Written over forty years from the late 1600s to the early 1700s, it circulated in copied manuscripts before first appearing in print in 1766. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
