About “Syntagma musicum”
Syntagma Musicum (1614–1620) is a three-volume musical treatise by the German composer and music theorist Michael Praetorius. It was published in Wittenberg and Wolfenbüttel. The work is a key source for understanding seventeenth-century music theory and performance practice. The second volume, De Organographia, focuses on musical instruments, providing detailed descriptions and illustrations. This volume became especially important in the twentieth century for researching and reconstructing early instruments, playing a major role in the early music revival. Praetorius planned a fourth volume on musical composition, though it was never published. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
