About “Systema naturae”

Systema Naturae is a major work by Swedish botanist, zoologist, and physician Carl Linnaeus. It introduced the Linnaean taxonomy, which uses a system of binomial nomenclature to classify living organisms. While the concept was partially developed by the Bauhin brothers, Linnaeus was the first to apply it consistently in his work. The first edition was published in 1735. The 10th edition, published in 1758, was the most significant. Its full title was Systema naturæ per regna tria naturæ, secundum classes, ordines, genera, species, cum characteribus, differentiis, synonymis, locis. An English translation appeared in 1806 under the title A General System of Nature. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
