Tōkaidōchū Hizakurige, also known as Shank's Mare, is a comic picaresque novel written by Jippensha Ikku. It follows the misadventures of two travelers on the Tōkaidō, the main road connecting Kyoto and Edo during the Edo period. The story is told in a humorous and satirical style, typical of the kokkeibon genre. The novel was published in twelve parts between 1802 and 1822.
