About “Tabaqat al-Hanabila”
Tabaqat al-Hanabilah is a biographical dictionary of Hanbali scholars written by Ibn Abi Ya'la. It begins with the life of Ahmad ibn Hanbal, the founder of the Hanbali school. Later, Al-Hafiz Ibn Rajab wrote a sequel titled Continuation of the History of the Hanbalites, which covers scholars who died after 460 AH. The modern published version of the work is divided into four volumes. The first two volumes contain the original text by Ibn Abi Ya'la, while the last two include the addition by Ibn Rajab.
