About “Tanhuma”
Midrash Tanhuma, also known as Yelammedenu, is the name given to three different collections (two extant, one known only through citations) of homiletic midrash, or Torah aggadot, on the entire Torah, known in several different versions. Tanhuma bar Abba is not the author but a figure to whom the traditions are attributed, though he may have preserved a collection of midrashim used by other editors; the name Yelammedenu derives from the Hebrew phrase yelammedenu rabbenu, which opens a typical textual unit in the text.
